Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes National Park is a globally recognized destination in northwestern Rwanda, famed for mountain gorilla trekking and its spectacular Virunga volcanic range. The park encompasses five of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga chain, including Mount Karisimbi, Mount Bisoke, and Mount Sabinyo, creating a dramatic landscape of peaks, valleys, and bamboo forests.

Visitors come primarily to experience close encounters with endangered mountain gorillas, guided by expert trackers who lead them through dense bamboo and montane forests. The park also hosts golden monkeys, duikers, elephants, and a variety of bird species, making it a rich wildlife destination. Trekkers can also enjoy hiking to volcanic craters and scenic lakes, offering panoramic views and photography opportunities. Volcanoes National Park is a must-visit for wildlife enthusiasts, conservation-minded travelers, and those seeking unforgettable encounters with Rwanda’s rare primates.
