Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is one of Uganda’s most iconic destinations, part of the Virunga Conservation Area in southwestern Uganda. It is renowned for mountain gorilla trekking, as well as its stunning volcanic landscape that includes three of the Virunga volcanoes: Mount Muhabura, Mount Gahinga, and Mount Sabinyo.

Visitors come primarily to experience close encounters with endangered mountain gorillas, guided by expert trackers in dense bamboo forests. In addition to gorillas, the park is home to golden monkeys, buffalo, elephants, and a variety of birds and reptiles. The park’s volcanic slopes and crater lakes provide a dramatic backdrop for trekking, hiking, and photography, while its small size allows for a more intimate and less crowded experience compared to larger parks. Mgahinga is a must-visit for wildlife enthusiasts, conservation-minded travelers, and those seeking one of Africa’s most extraordinary primate encounters.
